Cause of Death:

Von died of malocclusion, essentially.  His back teeth got really bad and he couldn't eat.  The only thing that we could do was have him put down.  He was right about the age that genetic malocclusion will make itself known.   It was really sad because he was such a pretty chin.  His markings were precious.  He didn't much like people but he got along with others very well.  I had him for exactly three years before he passed, his tooth problems started about five months before he died. 

His problems were completely preventable.  It was probably known to who bred him that his parents and other ancestors had tooth problems.  He was a violet/beige mosaic.  That probably wasn't the best combination for the prevention of genetic problems because violet doesn't exactly make the most robust young.   Not to mention that there were three mutation color genes here.  Too much mutation can make weaker chins and increase the chances of genetic malocclusion or heart problems.

I regret putting him into breeding.  We didn't have any offspring survive from him, there was only one kit, but the predisposition to genetic malocclusion could have been passed on to future kits and I would never want that to happen.  I will not be breeding chins that come from this line or from the breeder Von was from again.
