Date Died:  4-16-2004

Cause of Death: Wayland started to have neurological problems a few weeks before he died.  This is something that does happen to chins sometimes.  It can be due to a brain tumor or injury.  In Wayland's case I have no idea of what happened because he was very healthy up until he started shaking and having trouble standing up on his own.  He was very young when he passed which rules out the normal loss of equilibrium that can occur when chinchillas are elderly (in the 15 to 20 year of age range.)  Quinn, his mate, was very depressed about his passing.  There was nothing that could be done but pamper Wayland until he would succomb to his problems.  He did have a very happy life with a lot of attention and love in the nine months he lived here.  Wayland will be missed.  His sweet temperament and personality lives on through his offspring, which are very dear to me.   (Maybe with the exception of his daugher Serenity.  She isn't like her brothers and sisters!!) 

I'm just so sad that things had to happen this way for poor Wayland.  He really was a nice chinchilla physically and personality-wise!
